Ingredients
1 ¼ cups whole milk or creamy plant based milk
4 large eggs, room temperature
½ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
½ cup granulated sugar
½ teaspoon nutmeg
½ teaspoon cardamom
½ cup all-purpose flour or gluten free 1-1 flour* see note
3 medium apples, peeled and very thinly sliced
powdered sugar for sifting over bars – optional
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and grease or spray an 8×8 inch baking dish
In a large mixing bowl, add all of the ingredients except the apples. Whisk until everything is well combined. Stir in the apples.
Pour the batter in the prepared baking dish. Make sure the apples are reasonably well distributed.
Bake for about 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown, puffed, and the center is set. Allow them to cool completely, then chill before slicing. Top with a sifting of powdered sugar and serve.
