Grab a large skillet, a mixing bowl, and a potato masher or pastry blender.
Wash your apple and cut it into small chunks. No need to peel unless you want to.
To the mixing bowl, add the apple, the beans, and the oats. Use a potato masher or pastry blender to mash the beans and mix everything together pretty well.
Add the herbs, egg, salt and pepper. Mix well with a spoon. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes in the fridge.
Add oil or spray the skillet and place over low/medium heat. Using a large spoon, ladle, or your hands, scoop out about ½ cup of bean mixture. Form it into a burger-sized patty in your hands and pat to desired thickness. (Having slightly wet hands helps stop sticking and lets you form a neater burger.)
Cook burgers until browned on each side, flipping halfway through.
You can also bake these burgers in a 400F oven for 20 minutes, flipping the burger halfway through.
